Our bodies are marvelous recording devices. They remember every incident we have experienced during our lives…from our lightest, happiest moment to our darkest hour and everything in-between. We have forgotten, in this modern age that our bodies are able to heal themselves.
If, for example, you cut your finger, you don't need to instruct your body to heal the cut. You might help it along with a plaster, but that's all. The same principle applies to our bodies’ natural healing mechanism to release stress and trauma. Shaking is an instinctive response to a stressful situation. Therapeutic tremoring is the natural way to shake out stored stress and trauma returning your body to its normal state of equilibrium.

What is TRE®?

Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises. Created by Dr David Berceli, TRE® safely activates your bodies’ natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating. This releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, your body is encouraged to return to a state of balance. This therapeutic tremoring helps your body release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma gently without having to relive the trauma.

How TRE® works

We start each session with six simple exercises that fatigue the leg muscles so that the psoas muscles (the center of gravity) can be activated. These exercises are not so that you can build muscle or train for the Ironman...they are gentle, stretching exercises that awaken your body to the process of tremoring. When you lie in the tremor position on the floor, the body can start its release process via the psoas muscle. You will notice your body (starting in the legs) begin to shake. That means the body is releasing tension and trauma. You literally shake off your stress session by session.

How long does a session last?
Each session with a TRE® practitioner starts with a check-in to talk about your TRE® process to date. We then move onto the floor to start the TRE® exercises. It can take up to 15 minutes to fatigue the muscles. I allow 20 minutes for the shaking, which happens at a different pace for everyone. We wrap up each session with integration time, when you let your body completely relax on the floor and rest from the releasing that has happened during the shake. Afterwards, there is a check-out where you are encouraged to come back into your body by drinking water and reflecting on the shaking session. A facilitated session can last about 60 minutes. When you are tremoring at home, you obviously won’t be doing the checking in and out.
Will you shake?
Oh yes! That is why you have sessions with a TRE® practitioner. The body will shake when it feels that it is safe. A TRE® practitioner has a grounded, calm nervous system that your body will instinctively recognise and feel safe enough to shake. In the beginning, you may find that you can only shake with a TRE® practitioner. That's ok and completely normal
How many sessions are recommended?
For maximum benefit, I recommend three TRE ® sessions per week for a minimum of three months. At least one of the weekly sessions should be facilitated by a qualified TRE® practitioner who will safely guide you through the physical and emotional shifts.
Who do I work with?
I work with individuals or groups who -have unexplained pain -no longer want to use medication or for whom medication is no longer effective -feel blocked or stuck -have been advised to reduce their stress levels, but are not sure how -want to heal themselves from addiction -wish to free themselves from anxiety, fear and depression -experience panic attacks -want to break free from the effects of PTSD -want to learn a safe, natural way of re-igniting the body's healing processes to use for the rest of their lives
TRE® one-on-one
I highly recommend one-on-one sessions if you are coming to TRE® for the first time. You will definitely benefit from the personalised attention and safe space that I create for your TRE® journey. In between sessions I offer extra support via email and WhatsApp.
TRE® groups
Group sessions harness the power of collective energy. You will learn from each other during the check-in and check-out. The group shaking experience differs from a solo session. It is also more cost effective. Groups are, however, not for everyone. An assessment is required before joining a group.
